Asian Cup Betting Preview - China v Iran

  • This is the first of the quarter-finals to take place at the Asian Cup. Iran won their group with ease posting the best numbers in attack and in defence. Team Melli generated the most xG (expected goals) going forward and the least xGA (expected goals against) at the back.
  • China who are managed by Italian legend Marcelo Lippi finished 2nd in their group after being completely outclassed by Korea Republic. Granted China did rest some players for that game, but question marks still remain over this side who have failed to reach their potential for a long time.
  • Both teams played twice in World Cup qualification in games in 2017. Over 180 mins of play we saw only one goal with Iran dominating the proceedings.
  • Iran have conceded only twice in their last 7 competitive games, those goals came in the World Cup against Spain and Portugal.
  • China have conceded on average 0.7 goals per game in competitive matches under Lippi. The Italian knows how to set his side up to defend there’s no question about that. He will also be more than aware of the threat Iran present.

Verdict: Being a knockout game with enormous consequences for both nations it’s likely we see a cautious start and an even more careful approach from whoever takes the lead as they look to protect it.
